Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, urged the Constitutional Court on the 25th during the final statement of the impeachment trial to unanimously dismiss President Yoon Seok-yeol, who mentioned espionage activities.
On the 26th, Governor Kim posted on his social media (SNS), saying, "Not only is it insufficient to call it political agitation, but where exactly is the end of Yoon Seok-yeol's delusion, who even claims espionage activities?" He added, "I urge the Constitutional Court to unanimously dismiss the internal rebellion forces trapped in delusion."
Earlier, on the 25th, President Yoon, in his final statement at his impeachment trial, referred to the Itaewon tragedy, claiming, "The opposition party not only exploited the tragedy for political strife but also engaged in virtually the same actions as a spy group receiving orders from North Korea."
He continued, "At that time, North Korea sent orders to the spy group within the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (Minnocho) to 'use this special large-scale tragedy as an opportunity to create a political situation similar to the Sewol ferry disaster truth-seeking struggle within society, focusing on maximizing the expression of anger from all walks of life,'" pointing out, "The major opposition party engaged in virtually the same actions as the spy group receiving orders from North Korea."
President Yoon added, "This is truly a 'provocative impeachment' that increases social conflict and confusion."
