Prevention of Water Pollution and Protection of Waterfront Environment Expected
On the 26th, Seosan City in Chungnam Province announced that Pungjeon Reservoir in Inji-myeon, a major local source of agricultural water, has been designated and officially announced as a no-fishing zone.
This designation aims to prevent water pollution in Pungjeon Reservoir and to protect its waterfront environment.
The city completed administrative procedures, including a 21-day public notice and opinion gathering period from January 13 to February 2. Fishing activities in Pungjeon Reservoir are now prohibited until the no-fishing zone designation is separately lifted.
The city plans to promote and guide the fishing ban within Pungjeon Reservoir until June, and starting in July, fines will be imposed for violations.
The fines for fishing in Pungjeon Reservoir are 1 million won for the first offense, 2 million won for the second, and 3 million won for the third and subsequent offenses.
A city official stated, "With the designation of Pungjeon Reservoir as a no-fishing zone to protect its waterfront environment, which will be reborn as a citizen rest area, we expect this measure will also resolve inconveniences experienced by nearby residents due to fishing activities."
Meanwhile, the city plans to create a 5.3 km walking trail around Pungjeon Reservoir so that citizens can enjoy rest in the waterfront area.
