Gwangju City Councilor Park Mijeong Holds Forum on Creating Walkable Paths

Park Mijeong, a member of the Gwangju City Council (Democratic Party, Dong-gu 2), held a forum on the creation of a pedestrian-friendly Munhwajeondang-ro at the Council's 5th floor Budget and Accounts Committee Room on the 26th.

This forum, co-hosted by the Gwangju City Council and Namusimneun Geonchugin, was organized to share plans and gather opinions on creating a walkable street centered on Munhwajeondang-ro.

Park Honggeun, Executive Director of Namusimneun Geonchugin, gave a presentation titled "Starting Point for Daejabo (Public Transportation, Bicycles, Pedestrians) Policy - Munhwajeondang-ro." Executive Director Park argued, "Now is the opportunity to connect 'Pureungil Park,' one of Gwangju's great assets, to the 'Forest of Light' at the Asia Culture Center (ACC)."

He proposed a Pureungil pedestrian path connecting Munhwajeondang-ro, which stretches from ACC to the Chonnam National University Medical School intersection, and Seonam-ro, which extends from ACC to the entrance intersection of Chosun University. He emphasized, "Seonam-ro is the only section that directly connects ACC and Pureungil Park. If we create a pedestrian space or a 'Plus Connection' with Pureungil Park, it will become a landmark of Gwangju."

Panelists included Shin Jeongcheol, former President of the Gwangju Architectural Organizations Association, Park Taeyoung, Seonam-dong resident representative, Kim Sanguk, Road Management Team Leader at Dong-gu Office, and Yang Dongpil, Policy Officer at the Gwangju Strategy Promotion Team.

Chairing the forum, Councilor Park Mijeong stated, "To make Munhwajeondang-ro a good precedent for creating pedestrian-friendly streets, it is essential to build consensus among local merchants and residents." She added, "Since this forum involves broad participation from stakeholders, I hope it will be an opportunity to listen to each other's perspectives and find good alternatives."
