Edison Museum and Terra Town to Be Established in Songdo, Incheon... Basic Agreement Signed

A project to create the Edison Science Museum and Terrace Town on the lakeside of District 6 in Songdo International City, Incheon, is being actively promoted.

On the 26th, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority signed a basic business agreement at Songdo G Tower with Songdo Museum Park Special Purpose Corporation (SPC), Chamsori Gramophone Museum, and architect Yoo Hyun-joon’s architectural office to establish the Edison Science Education Museum and Yoo Hyun-joon Terrace Town.

The core of this project is to jointly develop the Terrace Town, planned by architect and Hongik University professor Yoo Hyun-joon, and a museum exhibiting Edison-related collections on a 53,000㎡ site in Songdo A12 district.

The Edison Museum will be developed as an innovative science education space combining media art, gathering exhibits of Edison’s light (light bulbs), sound (gramophones), and images (projectors) collected for over 70 years by Director Son Seong-mok, as well as one of the three electric cars invented by Edison that the museum owns.

The Yoo Hyun-joon Terrace Town is a new-concept residential space that integrates modern architectural techniques with nature-friendly design.

The first floor of the buildings will have only pillars, adopting a pilotis structure to maximize openness, and each unit will have a private terrace to protect residents’ privacy while allowing them to enjoy nature. The outdoor space of the apartment complex will include public green areas harmonizing with the waterside park, creating a street where anyone can enjoy walking.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority plans to continue the project by converting part of the residential land on the lakeside of Songdo District 6 into cultural facility land after signing the main business agreement in the second half of this year.

Yoon Won-seok, head of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, said, "We will create a complex cultural space where museums and green parks blend along the lakeside of District 6, expanding cultural and artistic infrastructure, and establish a new-concept residential culture to enhance the cityscape and global competitiveness."
