Busan Veterans Affairs Office Pays Tribute at Independence Patriots' Graves on 80th Liberation Anniversary and Samiljeol

The Busan Regional Veterans Office (Director Lee Nam-il) paid tribute by visiting the tombstone of Choi Cheon-taek, a representative independence activist from the Busan area, at 10 a.m. on the 26th.


The tribute, held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation and Samiljeol (March 1st Movement Day), was organized to honor the sacrifice and dedication of independence activists and to carry on their spirit.

The tribute on this day was attended by various generations, including Kim Jin-hong, Mayor of Dong-gu, Busan; Baek Ki-hwan, Head of the Busan Branch of the Liberation Association; Han Geum-jo, Chairman of the Busan Central Union Branch of the Liberation Association; Seon Ho-seung, a teacher and member of the Veterans Honors Club; and students. After individual flower offerings, they collectively observed a moment of silence to express their respect for the patriotic ancestors.


Choi Cheon-taek, a native of Dong-gu, Busan, was arrested by the Japanese police for throwing a bomb at the Busan Police Station office around September 1920 along with patriot Park Jae-hyuk. He endured severe torture and was detained dozens of times while actively serving as vice-chairman and chairman of the Busan branch of the Singanhoe (New Trunk Society).


Lee Nam-il, Director of the Busan Regional Veterans Office, stated, “On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Liberation and Samiljeol, through visiting the tombs of independence activists, we aim to honor the patriotic ancestors and inherit the spirit of independence. We will do our best to ensure that the meaning of veterans affairs is shared by all citizens and that veterans affairs for everyone can be practiced.”


The Busan Veterans Office announced that it plans to continue paying respects not only at the tomb of Choi Cheon-taek but also at the graves of independence activists throughout the Busan area, maintaining ongoing honor for the independence activists.
