National Pukyong University Hosts Joint Symposium with Marine and Fisheries Research Institutions

Blue Food, Climate Crisis, and Other Key Marine and Fisheries Issues Discussed

To address current issues in the marine and fisheries sector, specialized marine and fisheries research institutions in the Busan area gathered in one place to hold the "2025 National Pukyong National University-Marine and Fisheries Specialized Research Institutions Joint Symposium."


The subtitle of this symposium, held on the 26th at National Pukyong National University, was "Global Initiative Symposium on Climate Recovery Strategies for Sustainable Marine and Fisheries."


Experts from nine institutions in the Busan area participated in the symposium, including National Pukyong National University, National Institute of Fisheries Science, National Fishery Products Quality Management Service, Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency, Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering, Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, Korea Maritime Institute, and Korea Maritime and Fisheries Training Institute.


In the morning session held at the Pukyong Convention Hall, Professor Kim Young-seok (Department of Environmental Geoscience) gave a lecture on "Climate Change Response Research by the G-LAMP Project Group," and Kwon Min-ho, Director of the Marine Climate Prediction Center at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, presented on "Latest Research Trends in Climate Change Response in the Marine and Fisheries Sector."


In the afternoon, the second session was held with the College of Fisheries Science at National Pukyong National University hosting the "Sustainability and Blue Food" section at Dongwon Jangbogo Hall, and the College of Environment and Marine Sciences hosting the "Marine Climate Disasters/Disasters, Marine Pollution, Biodiversity, and Resilience" section at the Environment and Marine Hall.


At Dongwon Jangbogo Hall, lectures included "Future Aquaculture Strategies for Sustainable Aquaculture" (Im Hyun-jung, Manager, National Institute of Fisheries Science), "Korea's Aquatic Animal Infectious Disease Prevention System and Efforts to Obtain Clean Country Status" (Dr. Hong Sung-yeol, National Fishery Products Quality Management Service), "Measures for Training Fishing Vessel Personnel for Sustainable Distant-Water Fisheries" (Professor Park Tae-sun, Korea Maritime and Fisheries Training Institute), "Key Technologies and Standard Trends of High Value-Added Ships" (Senior Researcher Lim Jin-hong, Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering), "Blue Food: How Should It Change and Be Consumed?" (Specialized Researcher Lee Dong-rim, Korea Maritime Institute), "Implementation of Marine and Fisheries Automation Using AI Robots" (Professor Seo Jin-ho, National Pukyong National University), and "Industry-Academia-Government Cooperation Plans for the Development of Blue Food Tech" (Professor Lee Sang-gil, National Pukyong National University).


At the Environment and Marine Hall, lectures included "Climate Change and Coastal Disasters" (Professor Kim Baek-min, National Pukyong National University), "Marine Prediction Systems and Coastal Disaster Prediction Technologies" (Dr. Byun Do-sung, Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency), "Impacts and Prospects of Marine Ecosystems and Fisheries Due to Climate Change" (Manager Han In-seong, National Institute of Fisheries Science), "Climate Change Response Restoration Policies" (Dr. Jung Yeo-jin, Korea Maritime Institute), "Development of Port Air Quality and Marine Monitoring Technologies Using Artificial Satellites such as Busan Saet" (Professor Jung Wook-kyo, National Pukyong National University), and "Marine Plastic Pollution and Ecosystem Impacts" (Dr. Hong Sang-hee, Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology).


National Pukyong National University expects this symposium to serve as an opportunity to strengthen Busan's research capabilities in the marine and fisheries sector and the network among regional specialized marine and fisheries research institutions.
