Recently, the tourism industry is evolving towards providing more diverse and personalized experiences, transcending traditional tourism sectors and converging across all industrial areas.
Goryeong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, in response to these social and environmental tourism trend changes, revised its existing six-year representative tourism product (Wangui Gil, Hyeonui Norae: 王道絃歌) and proposed a new tourism product in the ‘City/County Representative Tourism Product Support Project’ contest promoted by Gyeongbuk Province.
In this City/County Representative Tourism Product Support Project contest, Goryeong-gun proposed a tourism product that combines Daegaya historical culture and trends under the theme “World Heritage and Gaya Culture Met in the Ancient Capital (古都),” and was selected as the longest-running representative tourism product for seven consecutive years.
This product is based on major regional issues such as the UNESCO World Heritage registration of the ‘Jisandong Tumuli’?a core tourism resource of Goryeong-gun?and the designation of Goryeong as Korea’s fifth ancient capital (古都). It incorporates Hallyu culture, gourmet travel, wellness, and localism, structuring the program to explore seasonal changes in tourism content.
This contest project is expected to contribute to widely promoting Goryeong, the ancient capital (古都) of Daegaya and a World Heritage city, to the metropolitan area, just as the representative tourism product operation over the past six years served as a catalyst in attracting more than 3,000 metropolitan tourists to Goryeong.
Goryeong-gun’s representative tourism product, “World Heritage and Gaya Culture Met in the Ancient Capital (古都),” will be operated as a regional stay-type product with a 1-night 2-day itinerary for metropolitan tourists, conducted 15 times starting from late April.
County Governor Namcheol Lee said, “Being selected for the City/County Representative Tourism Product Support Project for seven consecutive years has recognized us as the representative tourism product of the Gaya cultural zone in Gyeongbuk. We will also exert more administrative efforts to improve the tourism reception system, such as expanding accommodation infrastructure, so that Goryeong can become a stay-type tourist destination rather than just a place tourists pass through.”
