After an economic organization meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Chairman Kwon met with reporters and said about President Yoon's final statement yesterday, "He explained the reason for the martial law, saying that he seriously considered the political system problem, which led to the imposition of martial law. He deeply reflected on the task that must be accomplished as president, which is to reform the political system through constitutional amendment, and included this in his final argument." He added, "Our constitutional system remains stuck in the 1987 framework and has failed to keep up with social changes, so I have been saying that constitutional amendment is necessary. I evaluate that the president's remarks were correct and made with sincerity."
Regarding martial law, he said, "The president apologized for the difficulties caused to the people," and added, "I hope people will understand the president's sincerity, and I believe they will."
On senior party lawmakers advocating for dismissal of the impeachment, he said, "There are various opinions within the party," but added, "It is not appropriate for me to specify my position in detail, but as our party's president, I hope for dismissal."
Responding to reporters' criticism that there was no unifying message, he said, "It was not possible to include everything in the argument that lasted just over an hour," and added, "Since the constitutional issues were raised, the president spoke about constitutional amendment so that our society can unite and move forward properly."
When asked if there was no intention to accept the Constitutional Court's decision, he added, "The legal team has already stated that they will accept it."
Regarding mentions of election fraud and other issues, Chairman Kwon said, "I haven't thought deeply about it, but I think the president spoke to the extent he intended."
