Gyeongbuk Office of Education Develops and Distributes 'Student Self-Governance Activity Support Materials'..."Helps Learn and Practice Democratic Procedures"

Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 26th that it has developed the "Student Self-Governance Activity Support Materials" to promote student self-governance activities and will distribute them to all elementary, middle, and high schools in the province.

This material contains content that can be commonly referenced by both elementary and secondary levels, covering the overall aspects of student self-governance activities. In particular, it was developed to meet the needs of schools so that homeroom teachers or staff in charge can refer to it when managing class and school-wide student council operations at the beginning of the semester.

Student self-governance activities involve students identifying, planning, executing, and taking responsibility for issues they face in daily life inside and outside of school. Through this process, they can develop democratic decision-making experience, cooperation, and problem-solving skills.

The "Student Self-Governance Activity Support Materials" are composed of four chapters: Understanding Student Self-Governance Activities, Class Council Operation, Student Council Operation, and Excellent Cases of Student Self-Governance Activities.

In particular, it provides detailed guidance on the procedures for forming and operating class councils and student councils, and introduces successful cases from elementary, middle, and high schools in the province to make it easy for practitioners to refer to. Additionally, various forms necessary for practical use are provided in Hangul file format to enhance usability.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education is promoting various projects to activate student self-governance activities, including support for operating expenses for student self-governance activities, support for fulfilling student council president pledges, support for teacher learning communities and school autonomy working groups, and communication, empathy dialogues, and leadership camps involving regional student representatives and the superintendent from elementary, middle, and high schools.

Superintendent Lim Jong-sik of Gyeongbuk Office of Education said, "I hope that the 'Student Self-Governance Activity Support Materials' will be of practical help for students to learn and practice democratic procedures," and added, "We will continue to actively support the activation of self-governance activities led by students."
