Daejeon City Acquires Intellectual Property Rights for 'Digital Twin Firefighting Training' Development Digital Twin-Based Immersive Firefighting Training Content Developed by Daejeon City / Daejeon City

Daejeon City announced that it has obtained three intellectual property rights (copyrights) for immersive firefighting training content based on digital twin technology, developed for the first time in Korea.

The registered intellectual property rights cover three types of firefighting training content, optimized for different user groups: fire safety managers, firefighting officials, and the general public.

Since 2023, Daejeon City has focused on developing this content in collaboration with Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation and Wavus Co., Ltd. By applying digital twin technology, the content transforms traditional 2D blueprint-based firefighting safety tabletop training into immersive virtual reality (VR)-based training. In particular, the opinions of firefighters were actively incorporated to enhance realism and enable more effective training.

The firefighting training content allows up to 20 people to connect simultaneously, working in teams of four, and is designed so that users can repeatedly practice fire suppression and rescue operations in various ways within 3D-modeled buildings, thereby improving firefighters' crisis response capabilities.

The 3D-modeled training buildings focus on multi-use facilities frequently visited by citizens, such as Shinsegae Department Store, Onoma Hotel, Wolpyeong Library, Lee Ungno Museum, Pyeongsong Youth Culture Center, Daejeon Museum of Art, Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Center, and Hanbat Arboretum.

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "Obtaining these intellectual property rights proves that Daejeon City is leading digital administration in line with its reputation as Korea's science capital," and added, "We will continue to pursue administrative innovation using advanced technologies such as digital twins to improve citizens' quality of life and strengthen the city's competitiveness."
