Creating a Family-Friendly Dining Atmosphere
Responding to the Low Birthrate Crisis
Yeongju City, Gyeongbuk Province (Mayor Park Nam-seo) is recruiting restaurants to participate in the child-friendly dining program "Welcome Kids Zone" from February 28 to March 21 to create a child-friendly dining environment and spread a culture where children are welcomed.
Restaurants designated as "Welcome Kids Zone" will receive a signboard along with child-friendly items such as children's tableware, baby chairs, and safety equipment. They will also be given priority support when applying for the Gyeongsangbuk-do Food Tech project.
The recruitment target is general and rest area restaurants used by children and guardians that meet the designation requirements. Six restaurants will be selected through on-site evaluation. The designation requirements include ▲selling children-only menus ▲providing baby chairs and children's tableware ▲having a children-only menu, which are mandatory. It is also recommended to secure a certain area (at least 80㎡) considering the safety of children.
Restaurants wishing to participate can apply by visiting the Yeongju City Public Health Center's Health and Hygiene Division or via email. Yeo Tae-hyun, head of the Health and Hygiene Division, said, "We hope this project will improve the negative perception of children caused by the spread of 'No Kids Zones' and contribute to creating a healthy dining culture," adding, "We expect active participation from restaurant owners to overcome the low birthrate crisis."
Since last year, Yeongju City has designated and operated seven child-friendly restaurants.
