The prosecution has demanded a heavy sentence for a man who killed a woman in her 30s at an officetel in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
On the 25th, at the sentencing trial of Kim (44) held by the 13th Criminal Division of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Sang-yeon), the prosecution requested a 30-year prison sentence and an electronic ankle bracelet order.
The prosecution stated, "The defendant did not compensate the bereaved family citing financial difficulties and made no efforts to apologize or restore the damage," adding, "The victim's family has suffered mental shock and is seeking strong punishment." They further noted, "The defendant was sentenced to three years in prison in 2016 for special injury charges and continued to commit violence-related crimes before committing murder, indicating the need to isolate him from society."
In his final statement, Kim admitted his wrongdoing, saying, "I have committed an unforgivable crime against the bereaved family, and thinking of them fills me with guilt and remorse." However, Kim's defense attorney argued, "Most of the defendant's prior crimes are related to alcohol," and requested dismissal of the electronic ankle bracelet order, stating that alcohol addiction treatment would be more appropriate than the attachment order.
Kim was arrested and indicted last November on charges of stabbing and killing the victim multiple times with a weapon at an officetel near Hwagok Station in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, where he resided. It is known that Kim committed the crime after drinking with the victim and having an argument.
The sentencing for Kim is scheduled to take place on April 15.
