Support of 1.8 Million KRW Each
for Six Infertile Couples
Haenam County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Myung Hyun-gwan) is providing support for traditional Korean medicine treatment costs to couples struggling with infertility.
According to the county on the 25th, traditional Korean medicine infertility treatment offers customized care tailored to the causes of infertility, aiming to improve the body constitution to be more suitable for pregnancy.
Last year, three infertile couples in the county received support, and one family successfully achieved pregnancy. This year, traditional Korean medicine treatment costs will be provided to six couples facing infertility.
Eligible recipients are infertile couples (including those in common-law marriages) who have been registered residents of Jeollanam-do for more than six months and have been unable to conceive for over one year (or over six months if the woman is 35 or older). However, during the period of traditional Korean medicine infertility treatment, Western medical infertility procedures (such as IVF or artificial insemination) are not allowed.
The treatment period lasts four months after the recipients are confirmed, and herbal medicine for four months is provided within a limit of 1.8 million KRW. After the treatment ends, the local association of Korean medicine doctors will continue to check the health and pregnancy status of the recipients for two months via phone calls and text messages.
A county official stated, "We have established a support system combining Western and Korean medicine so that infertile couples can build healthy families," and added, "We plan to continue discovering and supporting various policies in the future."
