Award Ceremony to Be Held on May 8 at the Guggenheim Museum in New York
Artist Kim Ah-young, who has gained attention for her innovative media art work that traverses reality and virtuality, has been selected as the recipient of the ‘LG Guggenheim Award.’
Launched in 2023, the ‘LG Guggenheim Award’ is a global art prize that supports artists who have contributed to expanding the horizons of contemporary art through innovative work utilizing technology. The judging panel, composed of internationally recognized museum directors, curators, scholars, and art experts, conducted a four-month evaluation process.
Kim Ah-young said in her acceptance speech, "What artists can do through technology is to explore the uncertain possibilities that may be latent within technology and express them in the most intuitive way." She added, "I have been striving to use technology to discuss its impact on our society, and I am grateful that this award provides an opportunity to continue such artistic discourse."
The award celebration will be held on May 8 at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. An event where Kim Ah-young will meet the audience in person and introduce her artistic world will also take place.
Kim Ah-young has received numerous honors, including the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Commendation (2025), the ACC Future Award from the National Asia Culture Center (2024), the Golden Nica Award at Prix Ars Electronica (2023), and the Today’s Young Artist Award (Fine Arts category) organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (2015). In 2019, she was also selected as a sponsored artist for the Artist of the Year Award hosted by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
