Japan Lotte's Long-Running Brand
Targeting the Domestic Pastry Dessert Market
Lotte Wellfood (formerly Lotte Confectionery) announced on the 25th that it will import the chocolate mini pastry snack "Pynomi" from Japan's Lotte and release it domestically under the name "Paiyeolmae." Paiyeolmae is a product with chocolate inside the pastry, making it the only type among domestic biscuit snacks.
Pynomi is a representative brand of Japan's Lotte, launched in 1979. A Lotte Wellfood official explained, "Pynomi is famous as a snack you must buy when traveling to Japan," adding, "Recently, as pastry-type desserts have gained popularity in the domestic market, we decided to import and sell it."
Paiyeolmae features 64 layers of crispy pastry filled with smooth chocolate. It pairs well with coffee, tea, or milk, and can be enjoyed as a dessert with fresh cream or fruit. Paiyeolmae is available for purchase at Lotte Mart, supermarkets, and convenience stores.
Lotte Wellfood's decision to launch Paiyeolmae is also part of strengthening cooperation between Korean and Japanese Lotte. Korean and Japanese Lotte are working on activities to create synergies among their food companies to secure global competitiveness. In September last year, they selected Pepero as the first cooperative brand of "One Lotte" and discussed plans to develop it into a global mega brand with sales of 1 trillion won. Additionally, in October last year, officials from Korean and Japanese Lotte visited a local cocoa farm in Ghana, Africa, to inspect the supply chain and provide agricultural support.
