A 'pro-Trump' podcaster who spread allegations of election fraud has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States.
On the 24th (local time), the Associated Press reported that U.S. President Donald Trump appointed Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent, as the FBI Deputy Director.
President Trump praised Bongino on his Truth Social the day before, calling him "a person with amazing love and passion for our country," and announced his appointment as FBI Deputy Director.
President Trump also said it was "good news for the U.S. justice system and law enforcement agencies."
Bongino, who worked for the New York Police Department and the Secret Service, has been a political commentator on Fox News for over 10 years. He is a pro-Trump figure who led the spread of election fraud allegations after the 2020 presidential election.
He currently hosts the popular podcast 'The Dan Bongino Show.'
The FBI Deputy Director does not require separate Senate confirmation.
FBI Director Kathy Patel is also considered a pro-Trump figure. There are concerns that they could play a 'vanguard' role in retaliatory investigations against President Trump's political opponents.
The AP explained that the top two positions of the United States' premier federal law enforcement agency are now both filled by close associates of President Trump.
