Lee: "I Also Bear Responsibility for the People's Concerns"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, met with former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, who is mentioned as a non-Lee faction presidential candidate, to discuss the political situation and party issues.
On the 24th, former Prime Minister Kim met Lee at a restaurant in Yeouido and said, "Since this is a rare opportunity that Leader Lee has arranged with difficulty, I intend to convey candidly the advice and public opinion I have heard from many people outside," adding, "What those who gave their opinions find most frustrating is how, in the middle of the 21st century, one president can plunge the lives of the people into misery."
Former Prime Minister Kim continued, "Ultimately, a social grand compromise for a new Republic of Korea is necessary, and it inevitably comes down to constitutional and constitutional amendment issues, according to their claims," and said, "There are many demands for the Democratic Party not to stop at simply impeaching President Yoon Seok-youl but to present a clear vision for political reform and constitutional amendment to prepare for a new Republic of Korea afterward."
He also emphasized, "Both Leader Lee and I, as politicians, feel sorry and ashamed to the people because the community is now practically in an emotional civil war state, and many people are in despair," adding, "The task given to us is, in fact, to find a vision that can achieve national unity by somehow healing the divided hearts of the people for the Republic of Korea community that has reached a state of civil war."
Leader Lee responded, "It has been a while since I last met former Prime Minister Kim, and it seems he has many concerns about the country and worries about the party. I humbly listened to his thoughts today and will try to find the right path forward."
He added, "The entire nation is now worried about the country and politics, and I cannot say I bear no responsibility for that," and said, "I will listen to wise opinions on how to resolve this issue smoothly, rationally, and well."
Earlier, Leader Lee met with former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo on the 13th and former lawmaker Park Yong-jin on the 21st. He also plans to meet former Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok on the 27th and Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon on the 28th.
