Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor: Cho Sangrae) announced on the 24th that it will resume the construction of a history museum that will serve as a space to showcase the region's identity and historical and cultural resources at a glance, and promote historical value and culture through exhibitions.
Last year, the county failed to pass the preliminary feasibility assessment for the establishment of a public museum by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the second half of the year. In response, the county is conducting a study to supplement areas such as exhibitions and operations that were pointed out during the preliminary assessment, and is making every effort to secure artifacts for the exhibition.
Regarding the acquisition of artifacts, the county is actively meeting with private collectors who have expressed their intention to donate their artifacts and is working to verify the relevant materials. Artifact collection will continue even after the museum opens. For artifacts that are submitted for donation, the responsible department will visit the site to verify the materials and make a final decision on collection after consulting with experts.
Donated artifacts will be used as exhibition and educational materials in the future. For more details, please contact the National Heritage Team of the Culture and Sports Division at Gokseong County Office.
A county official said, "We are meticulously carrying out a series of preparations with the goal of passing the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's preliminary assessment in the second half of this year," and added, "Since securing locally owned artifacts is crucial to the success of the museum's construction, we ask for the interest and support of residents and related organizations."
