On the 24th, Gwangju City signed a "Gwangju Airport International Flight Temporary Operation Business Agreement" with the Gwangju Tourism Association, Gwangju travel agencies, and charter flight companies at the business room of City Hall.

The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Kang Gijung, Sun Seokhyeon, President of the Gwangju Tourism Association, Hwang Yunseok, CEO of Darkhorse T&G Co., Ltd., and Kang Hyeryeon, CEO of Topclass Travel Agency, among others.

This agreement was arranged to strengthen cooperation between the city and related organizations in order to overcome the crisis faced by the local tourism industry due to the closure of Muan Airport following the Jeju Air passenger plane accident, and to ensure the smooth temporary operation of international flights at Gwangju Airport.

The city will proceed with administrative procedures to enable the temporary operation of international flights at Gwangju Airport as quickly as possible, while the Gwangju Tourism Association and others will cooperate in discovering charter flights and new routes, and work to attract tourists for the "2025 Visit Gwangju Year" campaign.

Mayor Kang Gijung stated, "In order to make Muan Airport the gateway airport of the Southwest region, it must above all be a 'safe and secure airport.' However, as the prolonged closure of Muan Airport is leading to reduced global accessibility for local residents and revenue losses in the tourism industry, we must come together to find solutions for the temporary operation of international flights at Gwangju Airport."
