A Special Opportunity to Experience Both Clinical Practice and Biomedical Research
The Dongnam Regional Radiation Medicine Center (Medical Director Chang-Hoon Lee) conducted a sub-internship program for six participants, including medical students and graduate students in medical schools, from the 10th to the 21st of last month.

The Dongnam Regional Radiation Medicine Center’s sub-internship is held twice a year during the summer and winter vacations for medical students, graduate students in medical schools, and students specializing in science and technology. It provides opportunities to experience clinical practice in real medical settings and to learn about the latest research fields firsthand.
The winter sub-internship program was designed to allow participants to experience both clinical practice and biomedical research simultaneously.
The trainees observed various advanced medical technologies in clinical fields, including neurosurgery using 3D monitors, HIPEC surgery for peritoneal metastatic cancer in colorectal surgery, cryoablation for cancer in radiology, and transarterial chemoembolization for liver cancer. In the biomedical research field, they observed and experienced the latest medical technologies and research methods such as the production of radiopharmaceuticals in a GMP compounding room and research on the development of electron accelerators for radiation therapy.
Jinwoo Bae, a second-year student in the medical school at CHA University who participated in the sub-internship, said, “I was able to deeply understand how medical knowledge is applied in clinical settings. Especially, seeing how experimental processes and data-based decision-making for developing new treatments are applied to patient care made me realize the importance of research. It was a meaningful experience.”
Kim Beopjong, Director of Dongnam Regional Radiation Medicine Center, said, “The reason why our sub-internship is special is that it allows participants to experience both clinical practice and biomedical research simultaneously, fostering an integrated perspective as future physicians. We hope this experience helps students explore their aptitudes and interests more deeply and plan their future careers.”
