According to Gimpo Jeil Children's Hospital on the 24th, this volunteer and missionary work took place over four days from the 17th to the 20th. These organizations conduct free medical volunteer activities for Kopino every year. Kopino is a compound word of 'Korean' and 'Filipino.' It refers to children born to Korean fathers and Filipino mothers. It is known that most Korean fathers do not take responsibility, leaving the children abandoned and living in local Filipino orphanages.
Lee Hong-jun, director of Gimpo Jeil Children's Hospital, said, "The medical benefits available to Kopino are very poor, so we conducted local medical volunteer activities together with the church," adding, "Our goal is to expand the biannual medical examinations to monthly visits to the Philippines to check on the health of Kopino children, so that we can help them grow properly and healthily even a little."
He continued, "Even now, there are Kopino children in the Philippines who do not receive help, but the problem is the lack of systems and measures to protect and raise these children," and added, "We hope that many people’s interest and warm hearts will come together so that more Kopino children can receive medical and educational benefits."
Meanwhile, Songdo Canaan Church operates an orphanage and school in the Philippines to raise and protect Kopino children.
