"Real-Time Response to Turbulence,
Securing Safe Flight Routes"
Air Premia announced on the 24th that it will introduce the International Air Transport Association (IATA)'s turbulence recognition platform starting from the 1st of next month.
This platform is currently used by 25 airlines worldwide (approximately 2,600 aircraft) as of the end of last year. When turbulence information collected from these aircraft is transmitted to the platform, it converts the data into objective figures and shares them with member airlines. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the total number of turbulence encounters by airlines in the first half of last year was 14,802, an increase of 78% compared to five years ago.
Air Premia stated that the introduction of the platform enables real-time response, allowing the securing of safe flight routes during operation. In particular, it can effectively respond to cases where turbulence is forecasted but does not actually occur, as well as to clear-air turbulence (CAT) in airspace where no forecast was made, which is expected to reduce safety accidents involving passengers and crew.
In addition to joining the platform, Air Premia is making efforts to ensure safety by sharing turbulence information in advance during integrated briefings for flight and cabin crew before flights, adjusting the timing of passenger services accordingly. The airline is also strengthening safety by adopting GE Aerospace's flight data monitoring system, 'Safety Insight,' to identify and manage potential risks during flight.
