Term Begins March 1 and Runs Through February 2029
Soonchunhyang University announced on the 24th that Song Byungkook, a professor in the Department of Youth Education and Counseling, will be inaugurated as the new president on March 1.
The Dong-eun Academy Foundation held a board meeting on the 12th and appointed Professor Song as the 10th president. President Song's term will last until February 2029.
He presented "a greater Soonchunhyang leading student success and regional innovation" as his management vision.
President Song, a native of Cheongju, Chungbuk, earned his master's and doctoral degrees in education from Seoul National University. After working as a researcher at the Korea Educational Development Institute, he has served as a professor at Soonchunhyang University since 1996.
Within the university, he has held positions such as Director of External Cooperation, Director of the Lifelong Education Center, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Dean of the Graduate School of Education. Outside the university, he has served as the inaugural director of the Asan City Youth Education and Culture Center, the 12th president of the National Youth Policy Institute, and a member of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO.
President Song stated, "As we approach the 50th anniversary of our founding, our university stands at a crucial turning point where we must reflect on the past 50 years and plan for the next 50. We will do our utmost to achieve a greater Soonchunhyang that leads student success and regional innovation," adding, "This year, we will make every effort to be selected as one of the Glocal University 30."
