Busan Urban Corporation Accelerates Development of Seobu Busan Complex Industrial Park

Proactive Commissioning of Service for Establishing Industrial Complex Plan

Busan Metropolitan City Corporation (BMC, President Shin Chang-ho) announced on the 24th that it will accelerate the procedures, including the review by the Central Urban Planning Committee and the commissioning of a disaster impact assessment service for the establishment of an industrial complex plan, to expedite the progress of the West Busan Complex Industrial Park Development Project (West Busan Complex Industrial Park).

The West Busan Complex Industrial Park is an industrial complex to be developed over an area of approximately 1.39 million square meters (420,000 pyeong) in the Gangdong-dong area of Gangseo-gu. By attracting high value-added industries such as bio, new materials, mechatronics, and logistics, it aims to diversify Busan's industrial ecosystem and contribute to local job creation.

To lift the development restriction zone on the West Busan Complex Industrial Park, BMC applied for a change in the urban management plan (GB release) to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport through Busan City in October last year. Subsequently, in December, consultations with central government agencies on the urban management plan change and strategic environmental impact assessment were completed.

This year, through consultations with Busan City, BMC plans to proceed with related permits and approvals, including the review by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Central Urban Planning Committee for lifting the development restriction zone and consultations on environmental, traffic, and disaster impact assessments aimed at establishing the industrial complex plan. Alongside this, the disaster impact assessment service will be proactively commissioned in March.

The disaster impact assessment is an important procedure that investigates, predicts, and evaluates disaster-inducing factors caused by development projects and secures the safety and sustainability of the project by preparing countermeasures. BMC plans to commission the service through a regionally restricted bidding method targeting Busan-based companies to revitalize the local construction industry.

Shin Chang-ho, President of Busan Metropolitan City Corporation, said, “As this is an important project that can serve as a significant turning point for the economic development of West Busan by providing quality jobs and driving regional economic revitalization, we will do our best. Considering the positive impact of the West Busan Complex Industrial Park Development Project on Busan’s economy, all employees of the corporation will strive to establish a rational and efficient industrial complex plan and promote a safe development project.”
