Operation Plan Briefing, Four Major Directions Introduced
Expansion of Special Education Institutions, Individualized Support
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Chang-su) will promote "Inclusive Special Education in Ulsan for All" this year through detailed, individualized support.
Recently, the Ulsan Office of Education held an online briefing session on the "2025 Ulsan Special Education Operation Plan" for about 400 school administrators and staff in charge.
The four major directions for Ulsan special education are strengthening a student-centered special education delivery system, enhancing support for inclusive education for all, expanding individualized special education, and increasing opportunities for career, vocational, and lifelong education for persons with disabilities.
This year, the focus will be on expanding special education institutions such as the Special Education Research Institute and the establishment of the 3rd public special school, strengthening support for customized special education services, and diversifying career and vocational education linked to the local community.
The inclusive education focus school, Jeongdawon School, will expand from 13 schools last year to 20 schools this year. The number of inclusive education support teachers assisting the operation of inclusive education research schools and Jeongdawon Schools will also increase from 10 last year to 20 this year. The number of special education support staff, special education assistants, will rise from 374 last year to 423 this year.
The number of special classes will increase from 351 last year to 370 this year, expanding students' educational choices.
The Ulsan Office of Education plans to expand professional training for special education teachers and inclusive education teachers and further strengthen the cooperative system of special education experts to protect the human rights of students with disabilities and support behavioral assistance.
Various programs such as customized assistive technology support by disability type and support for cultural, artistic, and sports activities for students with disabilities will be expanded.
In September, an art exhibition of works by students with special education needs will also be held at the Ulsan Student Education and Culture Center.
An official from the Ulsan Office of Education said, "We will do our best to strengthen support for inclusive education and improve the quality of special education to create an environment where all students can receive education fairly."
