Suncheon City to Reward Informants for Reporting At-Risk Households

50,000 KRW Per Case...
Annual Limit of 300,000 KRW

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu) announced that it is operating a reward system to increase social awareness and encourage reporting of households in crisis that fall into welfare blind spots.

The targets for reporting are households registered in Suncheon City that are in need of assistance due to unemployment, business closure, illness, disability, or other crisis situations resulting in no income. Reports can be made by visiting the local administrative welfare center, by phone, or through the welfare crisis alert app.

If a reported household in crisis is selected as a recipient of basic livelihood support such as living expenses, medical care, housing, or education, the resident who made the report will receive a reward of 50,000 KRW per case. However, the annual reward limit per reporter is capped at 300,000 KRW.

However, those who are obligated to report crisis households under the Social Security Benefits Act, public officials, individuals participating in crisis household identification work promoted by Suncheon City, the person in crisis or their relatives, and those reporting households already selected as recipients are excluded from receiving rewards.

A city official stated, "We hope that the reward system for reporting welfare blind spots will encourage people to pay more attention to their neighbors," and added, "We will do our best to establish a thorough welfare safety net and eliminate welfare blind spots."
