Gangjin County Hosts "Night of Cheongja" with Former Residents

Over 500 Members from Hometown Associations Nationwide...
Donations for Hometown Love and Scholarships

Gangjin County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jinwon) announced on the 24th that, as the 53rd Gangjin Celadon Festival opened on the 22nd, people from all over the country who have roots in Gangjin enjoyed the night sky of their hometown to the fullest at the festival venue.


Cho Huisul, President of the Gangjin County Association in Seoul, who participated in lighting the fire in the wood-fired kiln that day, said, "Hometown is always like a mother's embrace, and every time I meet friends here, we exchange warm words, which makes me so happy." He added, "Since last year, I heard that Gangjin County has been making every effort to revive the economy through the half-price travel initiative, so I rushed here to encourage them."


He continued, "I wish for the well-being and health of the governor, public officials, and all residents, and I sincerely hope for the continued success of the Celadon Festival."

Seong Gwangseon, President of the Busan Association, also gave a greeting at the Night of Hometown event held at the festival venue, saying, "Although the weather is a bit cold, it is such a wonderful night as people from all over the country who are doing their part gather together and share food joyfully." He pledged, "I will always do my best as someone from Gangjin for the development of my hometown."


In response, Governor Kang Jinwon said, "I am grateful to everyone who traveled a long way to be here." He continued, "Last year, Gangjin County was recognized as the best local government in the nation for its effective administration, and we take great pride especially in the success of the half-price travel initiative and the vacant house remodeling project."


He added, "We will not rest on our laurels but will further expand major SOCs with the opening of the Namhae Line railway, the Gangjin-Gwangju expressway, and the Kkachinaejae tunnel. By linking festivals and the tourism industry with housing, jobs, and childcare, we hope to expand the half-price travel program so that more families and friends will visit Gangjin."


At the Night of Hometown event, Kim Namhee, Senior Vice President of the Seoul Association, donated 500,000 KRW, Yeo Sangjin, President of the Youth Association in Seoul, donated 5,000,000 KRW, and Park Byungjun, Executive Vice President of the Gwangju Association, donated 1,000,000 KRW as hometown love donations. Kang Seongil, President of the Jeollanam-do Association, also donated 1,000,000 KRW as a scholarship for local students.


About 500 people, including members from 13 hometown associations nationwide, attended the event, making it a great success. Seo Sunseon, Chairperson of the Gangjin County Council, Jeon Seohyun, Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly member, Cho Huisul, President of the Seoul Association, Seong Gwangseon, President of the Busan Association, Cha Yonghun, President of the Gwangju Association, Park Kyunggu, President of the Jeju Association, Kim Taehong, President of the Mokpo Association, Lee Jintae, President of the Hwasun Association, and Kim Gwangrok, President of the Yeongam Association, all returned to their hometown and enjoyed a delightful night in Gangjin.
