17.3 Billion KRW Support and Farm Vaccination Checks
Free Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccines for Livestock Farmers
Jeollanam-do plans to make every effort to maintain its status as the only mainland region free from foot-and-mouth disease by thoroughly strengthening vaccination and quarantine management.
The province will invest a total of 17.3 billion KRW annually for foot-and-mouth disease vaccination and related measures.
In particular, all livestock farmers raising cattle, pigs, and goats will receive free foot-and-mouth disease vaccines, and for cattle farmers with fewer than 100 animals, professional veterinarians will be mobilized to administer the vaccinations.
To mitigate any side effects of vaccination on livestock, stress relievers will also be provided.
To verify whether farms have vaccinated their animals, antibody tests will be conducted on approximately 48,000 cattle, pigs, and goats. Farms that fall below the required antibody positivity rate will be subject to fines and additional vaccinations, with special management in place until improvement is achieved.
Notably, starting this year, pig farms will have the number of inspections adjusted based on their vaccine antibody positivity rate over the past year. Farms with insufficient vaccination (antibody positivity rate below 30%) will have inspections increased to up to four times a year.
Additionally, to supplement on-farm inspections for cattle, the volume of vaccine antibody tests conducted by private inspection agencies at slaughterhouses will be significantly expanded from 5,000 to 15,000 animals, further strengthening the public-private cooperation system.
Lee Youngnam, head of the Animal Quarantine Division of Jeollanam-do, urged, "We ask all farms to ensure that every single animal is vaccinated according to the program."
