"Germany Grows Weary of Unreasonable Agendas
Such as Energy and Immigration"
U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 23rd (local time) that it was a "great day for Germany and the United States" as the center-right party was expected to win the German federal election held that day.
In a post on the social networking service (SNS) he created, President Trump stated, "It seems that the conservative party has won a very large and highly anticipated election."
President Trump added, "Like the United States, the German people have grown tired of unreasonable agendas such as energy and immigration that have been rampant for years," and expressed hope that the German conservative party "will achieve more victories in the future."
Germany held its federal election on the same day. According to exit polls released at 6 p.m. by the public broadcaster ARD, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) alliance was expected to secure 29% of the vote, making them the leading party. The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) was projected to receive 19.5%, followed by Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Social Democratic Party (SPD) with 16%.
Earlier, Elon Musk, Tesla CEO and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), who is known as President Trump's "first buddy," had supported AfD by delivering a speech via video at AfD's election rally in January.
