Criticism of "Democratic Party as Moderate Conservative" Remarks
Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform New Party, strongly criticized Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "Whether driving or politics, doing it like this will cause an accident," and added, "Politics is not a game on the road."
On the 23rd, Lee started his post on Facebook by saying, "It is well known that Lee Jae-myung should not be behind the wheel for various reasons."
He continued, "Nevertheless, in recent days, he has been driving in the political space by sticking to lanes, repeatedly making sudden stops and starts, and changing lanes without signaling."
Lee wrote, "Whether driving or politics, doing it like this will cause an accident," and added, "If you are going to turn left, do so from the first lane; if you are going to turn right, do so from the curb lane; turn on your blinker precisely and enter while driving defensively."
He also said, "If you turn on the right blinker in the first lane, the public can't help but wonder, 'What on earth are you intoxicated with to be holding the wheel like that?'" Then, addressing Lee Jae-myung, he said, "Politics is not a game on the road," and warned, "The car carrying the people is not your personal laboratory. Please drive carefully and responsibly." Along with this post, Lee shared a photo of Lee Jae-myung's social media post from the same day that read, "Left? Right? The people are hungry!"
Finally, Lee sarcastically remarked, "At least Minister Kim Moon-soo (Ministry of Employment and Labor) has always changed lanes one at a time with his blinker on," adding, "Of course, recently, it seems he might even drive onto the sidewalk blocks."
Recently, Lee Jae-myung has been making statements advocating for a 'moderate conservative' stance.
Lee stated, "The Democratic Party is a centrist party," and added, "In the current situation where the People Power Party has revealed its far-right nature and even abandoned its formal conservative role, the Democratic Party's role as a moderate conservative is more important." In a post on social media, he claimed, "The Democratic Party has always been a centrist party," and argued, "When progressive values were more important in the times, the party played a progressive centrist role; when conservative values were more important, it played a moderate conservative role." He also said, "Progressivism and conservatism are relative depending on the era and circumstances."
