Gwangju Sinsagae Eye Clinic announced on the 23rd that it has introduced the new Intensity intraocular lens.

This lens was developed by Hanita Lenses, a global optics company with over 40 years of history, based on their advanced technology to address the shortcomings of conventional cataract intraocular lenses.

Cataracts are a degenerative disease in which the lens becomes cloudy and grayish, leading to decreased vision, most commonly caused by aging. About 70% of people in their 60s and 90% of those in their 70s and older experience cataracts. According to the annual major surgery statistics from the National Health Insurance Service, cataract surgery ranks as the most frequently performed operation every year.

Once the lens becomes clouded, it does not recover naturally and worsens over time.

Symptoms such as blurred vision, glare, and double vision appear, significantly affecting daily life. The only way to treat cataracts is surgically removing the clouded lens and implanting an artificial intraocular lens.

For cataract surgery, monofocal lenses, which provide a single focal distance, and multifocal lenses, which improve near, intermediate, and far vision, have mainly been used. Recently, the Intensity 5-focal lens, an advanced version of multifocal lenses, allows for even more precise focus adjustment.

The Intensity lens offers features such as: comfortable vision from far to intermediate and near distances; clear vision through DUD (Dynamic Utilization of Light) technology; minimized incidence of posterior capsular opacification; improved clarity when shifting gaze; color perception similar to the natural lens; and reduced defect rates through comprehensive inspection from production to sterilization.

Kim Jaebong, Chief Director of Gwangju Sinsagae Eye Clinic, stated, "Koreans mainly use distances between 40 and 130 cm, and the Intensity lens is designed to optimize light distribution at 133 cm, 80 cm, 60 cm, and 40 cm, providing excellent vision at all distances with outstanding range."
