Chinese President Xi Jinping recently expressed strong confidence in the "rise of China" during a private forum centered on big tech (major information technology companies), which was revealed belatedly.
The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, reported on the 21st under the headline "Boost Confidence and Fully Demonstrate Strength," conveying the contents of the confidential forum held on the 17th attended by President Xi.
According to the report, President Xi emphasized to representatives of private enterprises at the forum that "in the long term, the east wind will prevail," stressing that "confidence is very important." He added, "Some difficulties and challenges currently faced by the private economy are merely phenomena arising from reform and industrial transformation," and "from a long-term perspective, the positive conditions and fundamental development trends have not changed."
Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 22nd that Xi's remarks quoted the phrase "the east wind overwhelms the west wind," which Mao Zedong mentioned during his visit to the former Soviet Union in 1957. This phrase, originating from classical literature, symbolizes the east wind and west wind as socialist and capitalist forces, respectively. Xi's statement is interpreted as implying China's rise and the decline of Western countries.
In a 2021 commentary by the state-run Xinhua News Agency, Xi also expressed a similar view, stating, "Today, the world is undergoing unprecedented great changes not seen in a century, but time and trends are on our side."
Meanwhile, it was also reported that President Xi showed great expectations while encouraging Wang Xingxing, chairman of Unitree, who gained attention by showcasing a humanoid robot at this year's Spring Festival Gala (China's Lunar New Year).
Addressing Wang, born in 1990, he said, "You are the youngest here," emphasizing, "The nation's innovation requires the contributions and capabilities of the younger generation." This was in response to Wang's remark, "Our company and we were all born and raised in China."
Additionally, President Xi recalled his time working in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, expressing his feelings by saying, "At first, it was mainly focused on raw material processing, but now we have built our own brands that surpass international brands."
