In a spokesperson's statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the same day, it said, "We once again sternly urge the immediate abolition of this event." It added, "The Japanese government must immediately cease its unjust claims over Dokdo, which is clearly our inherent territory historically, geographically, and under international law, and humbly face history."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Daisuke Mibae, the Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in Korea, to the ministry building on the same day to express protest over the hosting of the 'Takeshima Day' event.

On this day, Shimane Prefecture in western Honshu, Japan, held the Takeshima Day event in Matsue City. Since 2013, the Japanese government has dispatched a vice-ministerial level political official to the Takeshima Day event for 12 consecutive years, and this year also sent Eriko Imai, a political official in charge of territorial issues.

Shimane Prefecture established the "Ordinance to Designate February 22 as Takeshima Day" in March 2005, marking the 100th anniversary of the unilateral incorporation of Dokdo into its administrative district by public notice (official announcement) on February 22, 1905.
