Damyang County, Jeonnam Province, announced on the 22nd that it will be recruiting the second class of students for its Agricultural Academy until the 28th of next month, with the aim of serving as a platform for returning farmers to start businesses and to nurture experts in Damyang agriculture.

Applicants must be 49 years old or younger as of the application date and any young person interested in agricultural education, regardless of region, occupation, or gender, is eligible to apply.

The program runs for two years. The first year covers basic agricultural theory, rural life, and field trips, while the second year focuses on cultivation techniques and practical training for key crops such as strawberries, tomatoes, and blueberries.

Classes will begin on May 8 and continue once a week until October 30, with each session lasting three hours, totaling 60 hours of instruction.

The Agricultural Academy has structured its curriculum according to the guidelines for operating agricultural colleges. Until the Agricultural Experience and Practice Center is completed in 2026, the program will be conducted in a commuting format at the Agricultural Technology Center. Starting in 2027, it will transition to a residential program at the new center.

A county official stated, "We hope that the Agricultural Academy will continuously nurture agricultural leaders who will drive the future of Damyang's agriculture," adding, "We will promote the development of Damyang County's agriculture through systematic education."

Meanwhile, the county operated the first class of the Agricultural Academy over two years from 2023 to 2024. For the 27 graduates, the county is supporting learning group activities and on-site agricultural technology demonstration tests, striving to help the first class of young farmers settle stably.
