The youngest medical student at age 15 has emerged. It is Kim Doyun, who was accepted to multiple medical schools in Seoul.

Recently, Kim (born in May 2010, age 15) was admitted to the Catholic University College of Medicine and the Sungkyunkwan University College of Medicine through the early admission process for the 2025 academic year. He decided to enroll at Catholic University.

Typically, a student of middle school 3rd grade age would not be holding a medical student ID. Although there have been cases in 2000 and 2006 where 15-year-old youths entered medical school, being accepted to two medical schools is a rare case.

Since childhood, Kim has shown outstanding talent in mathematics and science. In 5th grade of elementary school, he won a gold medal at the middle school mathematics Olympiad, and before dropping out, he had already completed high school level math and science studies in 1st grade of middle school.

The following year, he entered middle school but later dropped out to study coding, university-level calculus, and life sciences freely, subjects he was very interested in, under his parents' guidance. Last year, he passed the middle and high school equivalency exams with perfect scores.

When asked about his study methods, Kim said, "I had many conversations with my parents about topics I was curious about, and during the COVID-19 pandemic when I experienced remote classes, I learned to think independently and research on my own." He also said, "I mainly listened to online lectures including those from EBS, and for subjects without online lectures, I attended in-person classes at academies preparing for the college entrance exam."

He explained that his decision to enter medical school was to pursue his dream of studying basic medical science. Kim stated, "During elementary school, experiencing COVID-19 sparked my interest in infectious disease prevention and treatment," and added, "I want to become a medical scientist researching basic medical science and new drug development."
