Congratulatory Message Also Featured on the Front Page of Rodong Sinmun
Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, sent a congratulatory message to Huh Jong-man, Chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), on his 90th birthday to encourage him.
In the congratulatory message published by the Korean Central News Agency on the 22nd, Chairman Kim stated, "On the occasion of the 90th birthday of Comrade Chairman, I send warm congratulations on behalf of our state and all the people."
Chairman Kim described Chairman Huh Jong-man as "a precious elder of our revolution," "a passionate patriotic loyalist," and "a true overseas revolutionary," adding, "The longing for Comrade Chairman, whom General (Kim Jong Il) cherished and loved the most, grows stronger."
The congratulatory message was also featured on the front page of the Rodong Sinmun, which is read by North Korean residents.
Huh Jong-man, who became the head of Chongryon in 2012 following Han Duck-soo and Seo Man-sul, was appointed as the responsible vice chairman in 1993. Since then, he has visited North Korea several times on occasions such as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Party in 1995, Kim Il Sung's birthday in 1998, the 55th anniversary of the Party's founding in 2000, and Kim Jong Il's birthday in 2002, meeting with Kim Jong Il, Chairman of the National Defense Commission. During these visits, he is known to have delivered financial support to North Korea.
Earlier, Chongryon reappointed Huh Jong-man as chairman at the 25th General Assembly held in Tokyo, Japan, in May 2022.
