Busan Research Institute and Public Design Forum Hold Joint Seminar... Outlook on the Future of Public Design in Busan

"Why Talk About Public Design Now?
And Why Busan?"

The Busan Institute and the Public Design Forum will jointly hold a seminar titled "Why Talk About Public Design Now? And Busan?" at 2 p.m. on the 25th at Dongseo University Centum Campus.


This seminar is the second event organized by the Public Design Forum, which was launched last year, aimed at responding to the growing interest of experts and citizens in public design and exploring the development direction of public design in Busan. Dongseo University is sponsoring this seminar.


The seminar will begin with opening remarks by Shin Hyun-seok, Director of the Busan Institute, and Jeon Sang-in, Co-Representative of the Public Design Forum, a video congratulatory message from Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan, and a welcome speech by Jang Ju-young, Dean of the College of Design at Dongseo University. The session will be moderated by Lee Haeng, Professor Emeritus at Inje University.


Comprising four keynote presentations, the event will feature Jeon Sang-in, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University Graduate School of Environmental Studies, presenting "A Sociological Perspective on Public Design," and Park So-hyun, Professor in the Department of Architecture at Seoul National University, presenting "An Architectural Policy Perspective on Public Design." Following these, Jeong Young-rok, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University Graduate School of International Studies, will discuss "Implications from Shanghai, China for the Future of Public Design in Busan," and Lee Myung-hee, Professor at Dongseo University College of Design, will offer "Suggestions for Public Design in Busan."


The comprehensive discussion will include Kim Don-yu, Director of the International Exhibition and Convention Marketing Institute; Kim Yoo-jin, Head of Busan City's Future Design Headquarters; Park Sang-su, Commissioner of the Korea Communications Standards Commission; Park Sang-pil, Senior Researcher at the Busan Institute; and Park Soo-bin, Professor in the Department of Interior Environmental Design at Pusan National University, who will engage in in-depth discussions.


Shin Hyun-seok, Director of the Busan Institute, stated, "Through this seminar, we will broadly cover everything from conceptual discussions of public design to practical development directions for Busan," adding, "We hope that the insights of experts and the participation of citizens will serve as an opportunity for Busan's public design to take a significant leap forward."
