Gimcheon Energy Service to Promote Transition
from Coal to Eco-Friendly Fuels

Gimcheon City in Gyeongbuk is accelerating its coal phase-out and carbon neutrality policies and is set to actively promote the transition to eco-friendly fuels.


On the 21st, Choi Soon-go, Acting Mayor of Gimcheon, and Na Young-min, Chairman of the Gimcheon City Council, announced that they recently held a fuel transition meeting with Gimcheon Energy Service to discuss the direction of eco-friendly energy policies.

Gimcheon-si Accelerates Eco-Friendly Energy Transition... Fuel Conversion Discussions Gain Momentum A representative from Gimcheon City held a fuel transition meeting for Gimcheon Energy Service at the city hall auditorium on the 19th, discussing the direction of eco-friendly energy policies.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Gimcheon Energy Service, resident representatives from Daesin-dong, civic groups, Im Dong-gyu, Chairman of the Environmental Pollution Countermeasures Special Committee (Environmental Special Committee) of the Gimcheon City Council, Yoon Sang-young, Director of Economic Tourism of Gimcheon City, and officials from Kolon ENP, a company located in the Gimcheon Industrial Complex.


Gimcheon Energy Service plans to improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions by converting the currently used coal fuel to eco-friendly fuel.


This fuel transition is expected to strengthen ESG management among companies in the Gimcheon Industrial Complex while contributing to the establishment of a sustainable energy supply system.


While civic groups agreed on the necessity of the fuel transition, they emphasized transparency in the process and the collection of residents' opinions.


Jung Jae-jung, Vice Chairman of the Environmental Special Committee, stated, "We must thoroughly analyze environmental impacts, communicate sufficiently with residents, and establish a monitoring system."


Im Dong-gyu, Chairman of the Environmental Special Committee, emphasized, "The transition to eco-friendly energy is a trend of the times, but above all, citizen safety and environmental protection must come first," adding, "It is necessary to form a win-win consultative body that reflects residential environment improvement and regional economic revitalization." He further added, "Gimcheon City and the City Council will thoroughly monitor and coordinate the entire fuel transition process."


Based on the discussions at this meeting, the city plans to submit an official opinion document regarding the fuel transition of Gimcheon Energy Service to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.


The meeting holds great significance as it involved cooperation among companies, local communities, and local governments to discuss environmental improvement and sustainable development for the city.


It is expected that eco-friendly policies will be systematically promoted through continuous discussions and cooperation in the future.
