Deployment on School Commute Routes for 12 Schools
Strengthening Safety on Students' Routes to and from School
Yeongju City held the '2025 Yeongju City Traffic Safety Guardians Launch Ceremony' on the 21st at the city hall auditorium and resumed guardian activities in line with the elementary school opening season.
This launch ceremony was organized to instill a sense of duty by awarding appointment certificates to the guardians and to provide practical assistance in securing safety on children's commuting routes by conducting safety education led by a professional instructor from the Korea Road Traffic Authority.
During the training, practical, work-oriented education was provided, covering topics such as types and prevention methods of traffic accidents involving the elderly, characteristics of children's behavior, and traffic guidance methods that can be applied during actual duty.
Earlier, the city recruited traffic safety guardians starting from the 20th of last month, receiving a total of 83 applications, from which 32 were selected. The selected guardians consist of holders of traffic safety instructor and child safety instructor certifications, parents from the desired schools, and those with volunteer activity experience.
They will be assigned to the commuting routes of 12 local elementary schools this year and will carry out activities such as △ crossing crosswalks together △ obeying traffic signals and speed limits △ protecting children from unprotected right-turning vehicles △ patrolling crime-prone areas near schools, thereby conducting traffic safety guidance and ensuring pedestrian safety within school zones.
Park Nam-seo, Mayor of Yeongju City, stated, “We plan to continuously discover and promote various traffic policies and projects, including the traffic safety guardian program,” and added, “We will do our best to create a safe traffic environment where citizens can feel secure and to resolve traffic safety vulnerable areas.”
The city is collaborating with related organizations and groups such as the police station, the exemplary drivers association, and the Green Mothers' Association to promote various campaigns, and through traffic volunteer activities during school commuting hours, it aims to prevent children's traffic accidents and establish an advanced traffic culture.
Yeongju City is holding the inauguration ceremony for the Children's Traffic Safety Guardians and taking a commemorative photo.
