Bitgwa Electronics, a specialized manufacturer of optical communication modules, announced on the 21st that it received a score of 90.7 and was rated 'Excellent' at the 2024 Commercialization Project Results Presentation for Optical Communication Components hosted by the Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency.
The BOSA (Bi-directional Optical Sub Assembly) product developed by Bitgwa Electronics is a key optical component that enables bidirectional transmission at speeds of 100Gb/s. This development is expected to simultaneously address the surge in data traffic and long-distance transmission demands in 5G-Advanced and 6G networks.
While existing 5G networks used optical communication modules with speeds of 10Gb/s or 25Gb/s, the newly developed BOSA technology supports 100Gb/s bidirectional transmission. It can increase transmission capacity up to 10 times compared to existing modules and reduce capital expenditure (CAPEX) to about one-twentieth of the current level.
A company representative stated, "The 'Excellent' rating for the core technology enabling 100Gb/s transmission will further strengthen our competitiveness in the global optical communication market," adding, "We will focus on cost reduction and securing product competitiveness through continuous technological innovation."
