Development of the World's Smallest of the Three Core Robot Motion Components
Testing to Supply the Three Core Components to China, the Leading Robot Powerhouse
Installation Tests Also Underway in Taiwan and Japan
Robot motion control specialist RS Automation is showing strong performance. Expectations for the overseas robot market entry of its self-developed world’s smallest drive, the ‘D8 4AXIS Drive,’ appear to be influencing its stock price.
As of 10:42 AM on the 21st, RS Automation is trading at 18,160 KRW, up 6.51% from the previous day.
RS Automation is currently conducting tests applying the ‘D8 4AXIS Drive’ to vertical multi-joint robots of a Chinese industrial robot company. The company explained that, in addition to China, it is also testing the application of the ‘D8 4AXIS Drive’ to vertical multi-joint robots, SCARA robots, and third-party control device products in Taiwan, Japan, and other markets.
The drive acts like human muscles and is one of the three core components of robot motion, mounted on the robot’s drive unit. RS Automation’s ‘D8 4AXIS Drive’ has outstanding competitiveness in size and performance, enabling it to handle a 4-axis robot with a single drive. Being the world’s smallest in size, it is easier to mount on control devices or robot bodies compared to existing products, and it overcomes issues such as braking or interference caused during operation by separately receiving sensor signals from each of the robot’s four axes.
RS Automation’s ‘D8 4AXIS Drive’ has proven its safety by obtaining the international safety standard certification 'IEC 61508 (Functional Safety)' from the smart manufacturing international standards organization IEC, as well as the global cybersecurity certification for software development processes ’IEC 62443,’ a first in the robot industry.
Kang Deok-hyun, CEO of RS Automation, said, "RS Automation’s drives realize miniaturization of industrial and personalized robots, which can also lead to cost reduction effects. In a situation where price competition in the robot market is fierce, we will contribute to creating a healthy robot parts ecosystem by expanding the market for high-quality domestic drives and controllers."
China is attracting global attention in the humanoid robot field following electric vehicles and artificial intelligence (AI). Earlier, Chinese robot company Unitree began pre-sales of humanoid robots G1 and H1 on Chinese e-commerce platform JD.com. The H1 model is priced at 650,000 yuan (approximately 130 million KRW) for industrial use in manufacturing, service industries, and other fields. All units sold out immediately after pre-sales began, making it currently unavailable for purchase. Some even speculate that the robot might not be sold to the general public due to its popularity.
Although China’s humanoid robots are still in the early stages, they are being used in production factories, logistics centers, and for handling heavy objects or performing electrically and chemically hazardous tasks. Since the 2010s, Chinese authorities have identified robots as a key industry and are recently striving to make the humanoid robot industry a globally leading sector for China, similar to the electric vehicle industry. China, which holds an overwhelming 42% global market share in the fixed industrial robot sector, is leading the field of mobile humanoid robots based on this foundation.
