On the 15th, a 49th-day memorial ceremony was held for the victims of the 12.29 Jeju Air passenger plane disaster, which claimed 179 lives. In this tragedy, which resulted in the highest number of casualties in a domestic passenger plane accident, 157 of the victims?88% of the total?were residents of Jeonnam and Gwangju, with Seo-gu recording the highest number of casualties at 26.
Councilor Ahn pointed out, "Even as time passes, the bereaved families are unable to escape the pain of that day," and added, "Since the special disaster zone was designated only in Muan, Gwangju, which suffered the most casualties, was excluded from government support."
He continued, "To create a safe environment where all citizens can fly, we must establish responsible and proper measures," emphasizing, "The special disaster zone should be expanded to Jeonnam and Gwangju, and the special law for the disaster must be enacted swiftly."
Councilor Ahn also urged, "Since Seo-gu had the highest number of casualties, support measures for the bereaved families should be prepared at the Seo-gu level."
