38 Ordinance Bills, 5 Consent Bills, and Supplementary Budget Approved
The Daejeon Metropolitan Council held the 2nd plenary session of its 284th extraordinary meeting on the 20th, processing 50 agenda items before adjourning.
During the session, the council handled 38 ordinance bills including the 'Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education Neulbom School Operation Ordinance Bill,' 5 consent bills such as the '2025 Future Strategic Industry Sector Contribution Consent Bill,' 2 opinion hearings including the 'Opinion Hearing on the 2nd Daejeon Construction Suspension and Neglected Building Maintenance Plan (Draft),' and the '2025 1st Daejeon Supplementary Budget Bill.'
The supplementary budget bill for Daejeon, passed on this day, totals 6.7122 trillion won, an increase of 35.1 billion won (0.5%) compared to the original budget.
Additionally, the council approved the 'Proposal Urging the Enactment of the Tentative Sky Law and Measures for the Prevention and Support of Abnormal Motive Crimes,' initiated by Lee Geumsun, and the 'Proposal Urging the Amendment of the Public Health Management Act for Creating a Safe Working Environment for Beauty Industry Workers,' initiated by Park Juhwa. The proposal by Lee includes measures for the enactment of laws for the treatment and separation of teachers with diminished mental and physical capacity, as well as measures to prevent abnormal motive crimes and support victims, aiming to protect citizens' lives.
Furthermore, through the 'Resolution for the Establishment of the Special Committee on Livelihood Economy' initiated by Lee Sangrae, a total of six members?Ahn Gyeongja, Lee Jaekyung, Song Hwalseop, Lee Geumsun, Min Kyungbae, and Lee Sangrae?were appointed as special committee members.
In the subsequent five-minute free speech session, Lee Hanyeong proposed 'Suggestions for Utilizing Schools Scheduled for Closure,' Jeong Myeongguk addressed 'The Justification for Administrative Integration of Daejeon and Chungnam and the Need for Regional Political Cooperation,' Kim Minsuk suggested 'Measures to Restore Trust for Creating Safe Schools,' and Lee Hyoseong proposed 'Error-Free Implementation of the National Leading Project for Railway Underground Construction.'
Chairman Cho Wonhui stated, "The recent tragic incident at an elementary school in Daejeon has further highlighted the importance of safety," and emphasized, "Relevant agencies must establish measures to prevent recurrence and do their utmost to strengthen the safety net for citizens."
