"Impeachment issue may be pushed to the background"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 19th that "now is the time to focus on overcoming internal strife" in relation to discussions on constitutional amendment.

Lee appeared on MBC's 100-Minute Debate that afternoon and responded to the question, "Do you have the will for constitutional amendment?" by saying, "If we talk about constitutional amendment now, it will become a black hole."

He explained, "If we talk about constitutional amendment, those wearing red ties will be pleased," adding, "there is a possibility that issues such as impeachment, restoration of constitutional order, and accountability for constitutional destruction will be pushed to the background."

Lee Jae-myung: "It's Time to Focus on Overcoming Internal Strife... Talking About Constitutional Reform Becomes a 'Black Hole'" Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is answering questions from panelists on MBC's "100 Minutes Debate" on the 19th.

He continued, "For us, putting that issue at the forefront may not help resolve the difficult situation," and emphasized again, "(The constitutional amendment discussion) is not urgent. Right now, restoring the constitutional order is more important."

When pointed out that "past presidential candidates have not discussed constitutional amendment when their chances of winning increased," Lee said, "I thought I would win in the last presidential election. At that time, I clearly proposed a constitutional amendment plan. I intended to shorten the term by one year to implement it."

When the host asked again, "Do you still hold the same view on that method of constitutional amendment?" Lee avoided a direct answer, saying, "I decided not to talk about that."

When asked, "What is the biggest problem with the current presidential system?" Lee briefly replied, "Concentration of power. Excessive concentration."
