Automatic Enrollment Without Additional Procedures...
Overlapping Coverage Available
Up to 30 Million KRW for Injury, Disease Death, and Disability
Gwangju City announced on the 19th that it will continue to support the enrollment of local youth in the "Military Service Youth Injury Insurance" this year, so that young people in the region can focus on their national defense duties.
Any youth with resident registration in Gwangju is automatically enrolled in the injury insurance upon starting military service, regardless of the service location, and the insurance is terminated upon discharge or transfer to another region. However, professional soldiers, social service personnel, and industrial technical personnel are excluded from eligibility.
The "Military Service Youth Injury Insurance" allows claims for insurance benefits within three years from the date of an accident if a disease or injury occurs during military service. It is also possible to receive overlapping coverage with various individually held insurances, significantly reducing financial burdens such as surgery costs.
The coverage includes a total of 12 items: ▲ 30 million KRW for injury/disease death and disability ▲ 30,000 KRW per day for injury/disease hospitalization ▲ 10 million KRW for severe disability diagnosis during military service ▲ 300,000 KRW for fracture/burn diagnosis ▲ 1 million KRW for traumatic amputation diagnosis ▲ 1 million KRW consolation payment for mental illness ▲ 200,000 KRW for surgery costs ▲ 200,000 KRW for hand/foot surgery costs.
The city plans to continuously promote the insurance by distributing promotional materials and posting information on its website, in cooperation with the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Military Manpower Administration, local districts, and related organizations, so that young people serving in the military can benefit from it.
Kwon Yoonsook, Director of the Youth Policy Division, said, "The Military Service Youth Injury Insurance is intended to support a safe military life for local youth," and added, "We will continue to strive to discover various support policies for youth welfare."
