"Semiconductor Process Training via VR"… SK Hynix Holds 12th Youth Hy-Five Entrance Ceremony

Connecting Young Job Seekers with Partner Companies for Employment Support
Education on Core Semiconductor Processes and Equipment Technology

SK Hynix held the entrance ceremony for the 'Youth Hy-Five' program, which it operates to nurture semiconductor talent.

On the 17th, SK Hynix held the 12th Youth Hy-Five entrance ceremony at Sejong University’s Gwanggaeto Hall, officially launching efforts to cultivate future semiconductor talent. The ceremony was attended by a total of 179 trainees, including 131 in the intern track and 48 in the education track, as well as Lee Bang-sil, Vice President of SK Hynix.

Youth Hy-Five is an employment support program that connects young job seekers aspiring to work in the semiconductor industry with excellent partner companies facing difficulties in securing talent. SK Hynix leverages its expertise in talent selection and development to provide trainees with systematic job training. The training consists of one week of in-person residential education followed by three weeks of online education. Afterwards, trainees undergo a three-month internship at partner companies, with outstanding graduates given the opportunity for full-time employment. This 12th cohort includes a total of 27 excellent partner companies.

Youth Hy-Five began in 2018 as 'Youth Hope Sharing' and has now reached its 12th cohort. To date, the program has produced 1,206 interns, of whom 778 have been converted to full-time employees.

An SK Hynix official stated, “Through Youth Hy-Five, we provide young people with high-quality semiconductor job training and supply excellent talent to partner companies, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of the semiconductor ecosystem and achieving mutual growth.”

Vice President Lee encouraged the trainees, saying, “I hope you develop practical semiconductor skills and grow together with partner companies to become semiconductor experts with outstanding competitiveness.”

The Youth Hy-Five curriculum consists of common job courses and specialized courses. The common job courses cover understanding of companies and problem-solving skills, while the specialized courses focus on core semiconductor processes and equipment technology. Notably, the specialized curriculum includes VR (virtual reality) practice sessions that allow trainees to experience semiconductor process work in an environment similar to actual sites.

Hong Seok-cheon, a trainee who participated in the VR practice, said, “Six months ago, I had the opportunity to experience the photo process firsthand, and I was amazed that the VR process I experienced today was implemented with details almost identical to reality. It was very helpful for deepening my understanding of semiconductor processes.”

Yoon Bo-kyung, another trainee who completed the VR practice, shared, “It was very impressive to learn in an environment similar to an actual site through virtual reality. This practice helped me gain understanding and confidence in semiconductor manufacturing processes.”

Lee Jun-seo, TL (SV Partnership) at SK Hynix, said, “The 12th Youth Hy-Five cohort recorded the highest competition rate ever at 24 to 1, and in previous cohorts, over 90% of internship completers were offered full-time positions. We will continue to develop the program by reflecting the needs of excellent partner companies and young job seekers.”
