Final Selection Results to Be Announced on July 14

Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province is conducting a citizen preference survey until July 5 to select the "2025 Jeonju Book of the Year."

According to the city on the 19th, the "Jeonju Book of the Year" is a citizen reading campaign that has been held annually since 2019 to form a reading community united by books. The campaign selects a book representing Jeonju together with citizens and runs various related programs.

The city received book recommendations from a total of 633 citizens. Excluding duplicate titles, 257 books were reviewed internally and by the Jeonju Book Festival Planning Committee. As a result, 12 final candidate books were selected across four categories (three each for Children's (Picture), Children's (Text), Youth, and General).

For the Children's (Picture) category, the candidate books are: ▲"Many People Go to the Sea" (written by Kim Gaemi, illustrated by Lee Suyeon, Munhakdongne), ▲"World" (written by Kang Kyungsoo, Changbi), and ▲"The Boy Wearing a Bronze Helmet" (written by So Yunkyung, Bombyeot).

For the Children's (Text) category, the candidates are: ▲"Best Friend Detachment Project" (written by Kim Geunhye, illustrated by Kim Dajeong, Gaeamnamu), ▲"The Great Adventure of the Peach Brothers" (written by Kim Jeongyeong, illustrated by Lana Kim, Haengbokhan Mirae), and ▲"Time Gene" (written by Kim Hyejeong, illustrated by Indigo, Lime).

The Youth category candidates are: ▲"Tomorrow's Picnic" (written by Kang Seokhee, Chaekpol), ▲"Terminal" (written by Baek Eunbyeol, Bareun Books), and ▲"Face" (written by Lee Heeyoung, Hyundae Munhak). For the General category, the candidates are: ▲"Death Class for the Living" (written by Lee Ho, Woongjin Knowledge House), ▲"Some Adults" (written by Kim Soyoung, Sagyejeol), and ▲"This Craziness Will Pile Up and Become a Festival" (written by Cho Seungri, Dal Publishing).

The citizen preference survey is being conducted online and can be accessed through the Jeonju Book Festival website. The city plans to select one book from each category with the highest number of votes, for a total of four, as the final "2025 Jeonju Book of the Year."

The final selection will be announced on July 14 via the Jeonju Book Festival website and the Jeonju City Library website. From April, the selected books will be used as theme books for a variety of programs linked to the "8th Jeonju Book Festival," including a transcription relay, a citizen contest, author lectures, and a family reading quiz.

Choi Hyunchang, Director of the City Library Headquarters, said, "We ask for your interest and participation in the citizen preference survey, which is a valuable process to select the book that will represent Jeonju as a city of readers this year. We will continue to promote diverse programs linked to the annually selected Jeonju Book of the Year so that citizens can enjoy the pleasure of reading and experiencing together."
