Expected to Resume Political Activities with Book Release
Reservation sales for "The People Come First," written by former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon, began on the 19th. Former leader Han is expected to resume his full-scale political activities in line with the book's release on the 26th.
On this day, Kyobo Bookstore and Yes24 started reservation sales for "The People Come First - Han Dong-hoon's Choice."
The publisher described the book as "containing Han Dong-hoon's 'choices' and 'thoughts' for the people as he crosses the sea of martial law and moves toward a new era," adding, "This book is composed of two parts: ‘Han Dong-hoon's Choice’ and ‘Han Dong-hoon's Thoughts.’"
In "Han Dong-hoon's Choice," the book covers the 14 days and 300 hours from opposing martial law, passing the resolution to lift martial law, attempting an orderly early resignation, passing the presidential impeachment motion, to his resignation as party leader. In the dialogue-style "Han Dong-hoon's Thoughts," he unfolds his political views and philosophy, including reasons for engaging in politics, his mission as a public official, and the happy country he dreams of.
Regarding the author, former leader Han is introduced as "a liberal democrat who values reason, rationality, common sense, and the people's perspective." It further explains, "As a conservative, he emphasizes principles and responsibility, sincerely committed to establishing the rule of law and reducing disparities. Through 'Ganggangyakyak' (being strong to the strong and weak to the weak), he is bringing a new wind to Korean politics by breaking authoritarianism and reforming outdated politics."
Former leader Han is expected to officially declare his political return through events such as book concerts or lectures following the book's release on the 26th. The political circle interprets this as a move practically considering a run for office amid increasing possibilities of an early presidential election.
Former leader Han stepped down from his position on December 16 last year after the presidential impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol was passed in the National Assembly. Since then, Han, who had been laying low, met with senior political figures around the Lunar New Year holiday last month to seek advice on his future course. Two months after resigning as leader, on the 16th, he hinted at resuming his political activities through social media by saying, "I will visit you soon."
