Gwangju University announced on the 19th that the Korean Culture Promotion Group (hereafter referred to as the Promotion Group) carried out promotional activities by visiting major institutions and universities in Tokyo, Japan from the 13th to the 16th.
The Promotion Group, mainly composed of graduate students from the Department of Korean Language Education, promoted Gwangju University at the Korean Cultural Center located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, together with Choi Jisoo, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation, team members, Kim Sunmin, former professor at Dongshin University, Lee Kyungju, Director of Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, and Jung Hyunggon, Director of Tmax Center.
The Promotion Group also visited ‘Chaekgeori’, a bookstore located in Jinbocho, the famous antiquarian book street in Tokyo. The owner, Kim Seungbok, is a Korean literature evangelist who runs the publishing company ‘Kuon’, and has translated several works, including those by Nobel Prize-winning author Han Kang, into Japanese.
Kim suggested, "Currently in Japan, there are cases where a writer operates a personal booth in a bookstore," and added, "Writers from Gwangju University could also have such opportunities."
Lee Gipyo, Director of the Office of International Cooperation, said, "It seems we have created a great opportunity for writers from Gwangju University to gain attention overseas," and added, "We will continue to nurture diverse talents with international perspectives across various fields and further strengthen global exchanges."
