LG CNS, a specialist company in AI Transformation (AX·AI Transformation), announced on the 19th that it will promote a factory AX project together with S-Oil. Hyun Shin-kyun, President of LG CNS, and Park Bong-su, Chief Operating Officer of S-Oil, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at LG CNS's Magok headquarters to implement an intelligent factory based on AI and big data.

Through this agreement, the two companies plan to build a 'Flare Stack Optimization System' that analyzes the color of smoke and flame conditions in real time 24/7 using AI video analysis technology and AI CCTV. A flare stack is a facility that safely releases combustible gases generated in petrochemical plants into the atmosphere by combustion. If the gas is not completely combusted, smoke and flames may occur, making real-time monitoring and rapid response crucial.

In addition, the two companies plan to jointly develop the 'AX Platform' and 'Integrated Process Safety Management System' to enhance the operational and safety management efficiency of S-Oil's Ulsan plant. Process safety management is a system that requires regular submission of reports to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, including process safety data, work permits, process hazard assessments, emergency action plans, and equipment management. It is essential for workplaces handling high-risk chemicals. Because it involves documenting extensive content for inspection, systematic management is important.

The two companies are also promoting the establishment of the 'AX Platform' at S-Oil's Ulsan plant. To this end, LG CNS plans to utilize its proprietary solutions, including the enterprise generative AI platform (DAP GenAI platform) and AI·big data analysis platform (DAP MLDL). Hyun Shin-kyun, President of LG CNS, stated, “By applying LG CNS's unique generative AI technology to S-Oil's advanced factory, we will accelerate the factory's AX and significantly improve employees' work efficiency to provide differentiated customer value.”

Park Bong-su, Chief Operating Officer, said, “S-Oil has recently introduced various 4th Industrial Revolution technologies to greatly improve safety and operational efficiency on site,” adding, “We have high expectations for realizing digital oil refining through cooperation with LG CNS, which possesses both AI technology capabilities and know-how in intelligent factory operations.”
